Brunico is the main town of the Plan de Corones holiday region and the true centre of Val Pusteria. The town is situated on the river Rienza and was built during the 13th century at an altitude of 840 metres. The town has a wonderful flair with its colourful facades, the alleys and a city wall. Brunico Castle hosts the fifth MMM – Messner Mountain Museum and presents numerous other attractions and destinations for visitors and locals alike.

Local mountain Plan de Corones with world peace bell and MMM
At the top of local mountain Plan de Corones you find the world peace bell Concordia and MMM Corones. The bell is a memorial to the pioneers who first explored the mountain. It is dedicated to St Bernhard, the patron saint of mountaineering and skiing. MMM Corones is one of the museums in the series established by Reinhold Messner. It inspires with its Alpine history, wonderful views of the Dolomites and its architecture, designed by the famous Zaha Hadid.

Ethnological Museum Teodone
According to the ADAC leisure atlas, the Ethnological Museum in Teodone/Dietenheim is one of the most beautiful outdoor museums in Europe. In the grounds of this open air museum, there are several old farmhouses and craft workshops which offer an insight into the variety of styles of houses and farmhouses. The Mair am Hof residence, which is the centrepiece of the museum, houses a number of collections.

Picturesque mountain lakes - impressive mountains - interesting nature parks
Val Pusteria is a green valley… with romantic Alpine lakes such as Lago di Braies, Lago di Anterselva and Lago di Dobbiaco, a number of imposing mountains such as the Thee Peaks, the Sesto sun dial, the Braies Dolomites and the glaciers of the Rieserferner group of mountains, as well as three natural parks: Fanes-Sennes-Braies, Vedrette di Ries-Aurina and Three Peaks.

Just above the town of Brunico on a hill you’ll find Brunico Castle. The castle showcases the fifth museum by Reinhold Messner, MMM – Messner Mountain Museum RIPA. Every year, guests are invited from a different mountain region in the world. Sherpas, Indians, Tibetans, Mongolians, Hunza spend the summer at the MMM and talk about their own country and their way of life.

Open air museums
The Monte Piana and First World War open air museums were both WW1 theatres. They also offer visitors 360° of magnificent panoramic views.

Damsels and Knights
Taufers Castle offers its younger visitors an armoury where children can touch the exhibits. Lovers of art can enjoy the Pacher frescoes and those with a more romantic nature will particularly enjoy the fairy-tale-like castle buildings. Special exhibitions and cultural events take place here and the castle pub is an interesting place to discover.

Thundering water
The Valle Tures/Aurina with its imposing Cascate di Riva waterfalls should also not be missed.

Bressanone and Abbazia di Novacella

Bressanone and Abbazia di Novacella: Novacella near Bressanone is home to the active Augustine Canon monastery with a church, cloister and a library. The bishop’s town of Bressanone presents you with its castle, the Diocesan and Nativity Museum, Bressanone Cathedral and a long line of shops.
